Let’s Learn How to Sew with a ROLLED Hemming Foot.
Juki has two Rolled Hem options for computerized machines.
Rolled Hemmer Presser foot for Zigzag:
This foot works best with light weight fabrics and creates a stitch similar to a serger.
Knits, gauze, and chiffon are ideal when creating. You can hem sheer fabrics for an elegant, professional finish such as a bridal gown or even sheer curtains. Sewing a curved hem of a sleeve is ideal as well. You can even make your own ribbon by using this rolled hemming presser foot.
Rolled Hemmer Presser foot for straight stitch:
This foot works best with lightweight to mediumweight fabrics and creates a narrow, flat hem using the straight stitch.
You can make linen napkins, tablecloths, dresses or even a scarf with the foot.
How to sew with the Rolled Hemmer Presser Foot with Zig Zag
* Select ZIG ZAG Stitch on your machine.
-
Pull the top and bobbin thread under the foot and to the back of the machine so that the thread tails are extended about 4 inches.
-
With RIGHT side of fabric up, Fold about 1/4 from the edge towards the right side. Now, STITCH about an inch down. Keep your needle in the down position for the next step. Stop Sewing.
-
Now, slight cut the fabric about 1/4 inch as shown Now, curl up that cut fabric into the groove of the foot so it’s peaking out at you on the left side of the grove. We can also call that groove a channel for a visual. Use thin tweezers if needed and hold those thread tails to help guide the fabric through.
-
Begin sewing at a SLOW speed while taking the time to see that the curled fabric is feeding through while making sure the fabric is aligned on the edge.
-
For a more pronounced edge, decrease the stitch length by 0.5.
TIP: While using the zig zag foot, you are sewing RIGHT side up
Now you have a perfect rolled hem!
How to sew with the Rolled Hemmer Presser Foot with Straight Stitch
* Select STRAIGHT Stitch on your machine.
-
Pull the top and bobbin thread under the foot and to the back of the machine so that the thread tails are extended about 4 inches.
-
With WRONG side of fabric up, Fold about 1/8-1/4 from the edge twice to create a double fold so you don’t have a raw edge. This fold is towards the wrong side. Now, STITCH about an inch down. Keep your needle in the down position for the next step.
-
CUT at an angle ( use a straight tip scissor) the fabric fold right before the foot begins. Start sewing and watch how it will curl into the groove. SEW SLOW and keep an eye on it. Guide with a THIN tweezer if needed. It should just feed.
-
Hold the fold out side of the foot with your finger to allow a natural folded curl and keep sewing slowly while guiding.
-
As you approach the end carefully guide the last tip of the fabric as needed.
