Squared Up Beginner Quilt Sew Along

In this class we will be creating the throw size 60”x71” The Squared Up Quilt Pattern from Cotton and Joy is very beginner friendly and uses a LAYER CAKE. This is the 2nd Class out of the 3 Part Pre-cut Beginner Quilt Series Classes! Each class goes through a different precut and teaches you different skills with each one.

Here is what you WILL need:

• Glide thread! Check out all the colors!!
• A ruler. I will be using a verity of rulers. This one for cutting out the binding. This one for adding stripes together. Lastly, this one for trimming and finishing!
• A sharp and fresh rotary cutter
• A cutting mat
• Firxion Pen ( or any marking tool that will come out)
• Wool Mat & Iron
• Wonder Clips for the WIN!
• 1/4" for attaching. Watch the video here for recommendations.
• Left Compensating foot. The game changer.
• Top stitch needles size 90/14.

Join Gigi and create a set of adorable mug rugs using raw-edge appliqué through the use of a blanket stitch and zig zag stitch. If you have a straight stitch machine you can use that too, but a computerized would be the first option.  An applique clear foot is suggested for computerized machines. For straight stitch machines such as the TL models a adjustable zipper foot or a shank adapter using an applique foot.

In this class, you will first learn to transfer patterns while using fusible webbing. We will also create a pieced and quilted background. Then we will start securing the designs by stitching them down while we learn to smoothly navigate those pesky corners and curves . We will purposely have patterns that allow you to work with straight lines and curves so you're exposed to different challenges.

Class includes complete step-by-step instructions (both live and prerecorded) and will be easily accessible on-demand if you are unable to make it to the live showing.

The pattern will be Christmas themed, but the instructor will also teach you how to create your own patterns that can be used with the background quilted mug rug.  3 patterns will be included: a snowman, Christmas tree and an adorable cup with saucer.

Gigi’s class will be streamed on a private Facebook group so it is important that you request to enter the Facebook group after you sign up for the class. You must have a Facebook account to participate. (CLASS LINK HERE) You can watch the class live with the instructor or watch it on-demand whenever your busy schedule allows. The class will stay accessible for one year from the posting date. The class can be viewed on a mobile device , iPad , tablet or computers. We recommend watching on a larger screen.

You will need your manual for this class, scraps of fabrics and a machine ready to sew.

Have you always dreamed about sewing stuffed animals, but have been a little hesitant? Well, this is the perfect class for you! This adorable, fun pattern by Funky Friends Factory will help you eliminate your fear while Gigi holds your hand along the way.

What's so cool about this pattern is that it doesn't have those complicated arms or leg joints making it much easier to sew. You can make your bunny from cotton fabrics, canvas, or even linen.

I am so glad you are joining my class. This is one of my favorite classes to teach. It opens the door into the world of quilting without feeling like you must know how to doodle. I hold your hand and help you with the walking foot and quilting several quilt sandwiches. This will be lots of fun!

TO GAIN ACESS INTO THE GROUP. YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR ORDER NUMBER. IF YOU DO NOT. YOU. WILL. NOT. GET. ACCEPTED. INTO. THE. GROUP.

Prework & Supplies needed BEFORE class. *Please read prior to attending class*

• Clean and oil your machine prior to class. Have a FRESH needle. Suggested needles include
  • Top Stitch Needle OR you can use
  • Quilting Needle
• The book of course! Gigi will be using the Walk Book you can purchase here.
• The Even Feed presser foot a.k.a. Walking Foot.. If you have a TL machine you will need this one. If you have a computerized machines, you will need this one.
• A marking tool. Such as a frixion pen (6-pack and 12-pack), a chaco liner, or an aqua pen.
• Curved pins or Basting Spray. Basting spray is preferred. 
• Gecko Gloves: AKA quilting gloves. I like to cut finger tips off. 
• A ruler to draw a straight line. An 18 inch ruler is a nice size and then a smaller one like 6 inches is so nice to have to create markings.
• Guide Bar: (If you don't have your guide bar grab one here: Quilt Guide for Walking Foot (Even Feed) - Juki TL Machines 
• Quilt Sandwiches 2-4 Approximately 12x18 in size with a low loft cotton batting 14x20 . Please use quality fabric such a solid Michael Miller fabric. Baste them with basting sprays. That is my preferred method. You can also use curved pins.
• Glide 40W Thread
• A seam gauge is handy to have during class too such as the magnetic sewing gauge or the swing gauge
• Blue tape is fun to have and so easy to use, but not necessary.
• A notebook, a highlighter and pen during class.
• Please make sure you have your walking foot installed and your knee lift if available for class. Get to know that foot INSTALLATION PRIOR to class.
